Unapologetically Me: Breaking Stereotypes and Making Space for Women

Hey there, beautiful people! Today, I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart and should be to yours, too - International Women's Day. As a proud woman with roots in the Virgin Islands and Israel, I've always believed that we are more than just mothers and wives. We make things happen! And guess what? We've been fighting for our rights from the beginning of time, long before it became a trending topic.

Unapologetically Me: Breaking Stereotypes and Making Space for Women

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Proverbs 31:10-31. It talks about the virtues of a wife and how she brings honor to her husband. Growing up with the Hebrew Israelites in Israel, my goal was to embody the virtues of a strong and capable woman. I spent years learning and excelling in cooking, sewing, crocheting, and caring for a family. And let me tell you, I could have aced a test on virtues if given one!

But here's the thing—I realized that being a virtuous woman wasn't enough. It made my ex-husband feel good yet did nothing for me. It didn't fill me up or make me feel genuinely accomplished. I didn't want to be known just for being a housewife. I wanted more. I wanted to make a difference beyond the walls of my home.

As a proud Virgin Islander living in Israel, my Caribbean ancestry stirred within me. I began speaking out about inequalities towards women and the underprivileged. Sure, some people didn't like that. I was labeled rebellious but stood my ground because I believe in fairness and equality.

I distinctly recall a time in school when I wrote a petition and rallied for a cause, even though the specifics elude me now. This experience taught me the importance of standing up for what is right and creating change, even if it means forging a new path. I firmly believe that we should never settle for mistreatment or inequality and have the power to carve out our destinies.

Unapologetically Me: Breaking Stereotypes and Making Space for Women

Women need to recognize their worth and stand firm in their beliefs. The world may not always change to accommodate us, but that should not deter us from pursuing our ambitions. We must continuously affirm our values, voices, and capabilities. When we internalize this mindset, we empower ourselves to achieve greatness.

This year's International Women's Day theme, "Invest in women: Accelerate progress," is so powerful. When you invest in a woman, you're not just investing in her; you're investing in a brighter future for everyone.

Remember, knowledge is power. Let's keep uplifting and empowering one another because we're forces to be reckoned with together!

I wish you all a fierce and fabulous International Women's Day!

Until Next Time. . .
